Laravel or WordPress?

Two very popular PHP tools, but not for the same needs. Here is how to choose without making a mistake.

WordPress: a content management system

WordPress is a CMS: it excels at publishing and editing pages and articles. With themes and plugins, you can quickly get a working website. The downside: every plugin adds code to maintain, regular updates and security risks if neglected.

Laravel: a framework for applications

Laravel is a PHP framework for building custom web apps: business logic, accounts and roles, APIs, payments, automation. You do not start from a ready-made website: you build exactly what is needed, with structured, testable code.

How to choose

Is your project mainly content (pages, news, blog)? A CMS or a well-built static website is enough. Do you have business rules, calculations, customer areas or workflows? Laravel will be more robust and easier to evolve over the long term.

For many showcase websites, a third option is the quickest and safest: an optimised static website, with no database or plugins to update. This is what we favour whenever possible.

Frequently asked questions

In brief

Can you take over a WordPress website?

Yes, to maintain it, secure it or migrate it: see redesign and maintenance.

Is Laravel more expensive?

The initial development of an application is larger than for a WordPress site built on a theme, but for a business application it often avoids hidden costs later on.
